31 | Set Building

Today was spent in a studio building the set to be used for a short film I’m part of. I’m so tired and my arms hurt, but it was excellent fun!

I’m really excited to start filming next week. We’re going every weekend for the next couple of weeks, so we’ll be done by March (wishing the month away!). You can check out the page here if you want.

This time last year I was working on a feature film in the art department. I learned a lot during the two months that I was there, most of all how to work with other people within the film industry. What I came to learn is that everyone has their job, and that’s the job they’ll do. Whilst people will definitely help if needed, they stick within their own role.

However on short student or independent films, as there’s normally not the large crews you see on feature films, there tends to be melding of roles. Whilst, yes, everyone has their own title, the comradery within the team means that everyone is more than willing to help out.

As a young, relatively inexperienced, person within the industry, I like that I’m growing in a role I enjoy on a smaller scale. This way if mistakes are made, everyone understands as we’re all there to do something that we all love doing, and understand that mistakes are how you learn and grow.

30 | Read More!

Somehow I thought that writing more would mean that I would be reading more. Of course I’m reading lots of blogs (and enjoying it thoroughly!), but I still am yet to make any sort of dent on my shelf of to-be-read books.

I’ve managed to read one book so far this year. One. That’s a poor effort if I do say so myself. I find that I’m only really reading on the train or tram nowadays, and even then it’s not all the time. If I’m carrying too much with me then I simply don’t bother to take a book. Sometimes just being on public transport just exhausts me for no reason and reading would be useless as I would retain nothing at all.

I really need to make more time in my days to read more. When I was younger I devoured books like nothing else. I remember there was one particular series called Sheltie the Shetland Pony. Let’s just say that I had all the books, of which there were many. Side note, I’ve just been looking it up to see if that was the correct name, and I really want to get one of the books now, just to have as a memory.

I currently have Gone Girl sitting on my bedside table, so I think I’ll sign off and start reading… I’ve had the book open for about a week now and I’m on page 3. Go me!

29 | A Week Has Gone By…

… and nothing much has happened really! February is somehow here already. We’re somehow 34 days into 2015, and I don’t feel like I’ve done anything! I’m going to try and put new pages up soon, that’ll be a very slow process but it will happen!

My brother and sister are in their last year of high school this year, which is terrifying. That means that I was last in high school five years ago. Five. Years. Looking back, even though I know I’ve done a lot of things since then, it really doesn’t feel like I’ve accomplished much. I know people from my year who have already lived overseas and then come back. People who are married and/or have children (yes, children. Plural. Dear Lord).

If I think of it that way, it really does seem like I’ve done nothing. However, I have spent three years of that time in university. I haven’t even been out of schooling for one year yet. Which brings me onto another thing. I know people who studied to be teachers, and are now teaching in schools. What. People my age are in charge of a classroom full of children. But then, whilst some of my friends are doing that, others like me are struggling to find a job related to their degree (Choose a major you love, find a job, and you’ll never work a day in your life, because that field isn’t hiring.).

Anyway, enough sad stuff! I’m going to be working on another short film starting next week, so I’ll let you know how that goes because I’m so excited! I’m getting to pick out my own equipment this time!
