The Lord of the Flies | William Goldman

The boy with the fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet of rock and began to pick his way towards the lagoon.

This is another one that I read for school. This time it was Year 11 Literature. Our holiday homework had consisted of writing an essay on a book from a list we were given. Having never read ‘Lord of the Flies’, I thought why not? We had about a week to read the book and then write the essay. Upon seeing the size of the book (not that big in terms of book length, but big enough that I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish it in time as well as all the other homework I had been assigned), I quickly started reading. I got to page 110 (I’ve just found my page mark), and decided I wouldn’t be able to read it all and then quickly read ‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’, as I knew I would be able to read it easily. Unrelated, but I got my first A+ of VCE on that essay.

That was 6 years ago now. Still yet to finish it. I have quite a few books that are half-read. It’s not because I haven’t been enjoying them, but I like to read more than one thing at a time, and I simply forget to finish reading it.

All I really remember was that I was enjoying it quite a bit, so I really should read it from the start again. It can go at the back of the queue of things waiting to be read.
